Apple slaps a 'Coming soon' label on Siri’s new voice settings in the latest beta

Apple just pushed its second developer beta for iOS 27, and one of the most highly anticipated Siri upgrades is officially on hold. The publicized "Pace and Expressivity" sliders, which Apple recently showed off as part of an artificial intelligence overhaul, aren't active in the latest software build. When testers open the Siri Voice settings menu today, they are greeted with a red "Coming soon" label stamped directly over the controls.

Apple spent a significant portion of WWDC teasing these exact audio controls, which allow users to manually tweak how fast the digital assistant speaks and how much emotion it uses in its responses. A lower expressivity setting creates a flatter, robotic voice, while a higher setting aims for a conversational tone.

The initial beta let developers see the interface, but the sliders themselves didn't alter the audio output. Now, Apple has made the delay official by blocking off the interface entirely. The sudden reversal caught the attention of the developer community almost immediately. Beta Profiles, an account known for tracking software updates, quickly documented the change online.

Beta Profiles posted to X, writing, "In iOS 27 beta 2, the Siri voice settings for Pace and Expressivity are now labeled "Coming soon."" The response from iPhone users has been a mix of jokes and frustration over the slow rollout of Apple's artificial intelligence features. The fact that the sliders were already locked behind strict hardware requirements has only fueled the skepticism.

Other users joked about the heavy requirements pushing them to upgrade their phones entirely. "Not on iPhone 16 pro max," user Wu Def replied. "I’m guessing this is a iPhone 17 feature…" user geekfye added to the discussion.

Some testers chose to look at the bright side since Apple is still adding a variety of other text-based tools to the broader iOS 27 update. "Looks like Siri’s still on a coffee break, but at least she finally got a better accent for the wait," user ZOEY noted.

Other users were far less optimistic about Apple hitting a release window anytime in the near future. One user named VanishingTacos simply replied "Coming Soon (2037)" to summarize the collective impatience.

More beta tweaks

The temporary loss of the voice controls doesn't mean iOS 27 beta 2 is entirely empty. The new build actually brings a variety of new capabilities closer to the surface. A new "Write with Siri" button now hovers directly above the keyboard in apps like Mail and Notes. The system replaces older menus and lets people rewrite or proofread their text instantly.

The update also adds support for inline replies in messaging conversations with Android users. This change gives iPhone owners a much cleaner way to organize busy group chats across different operating systems. The core of the Siri AI experience is still expected to arrive in a public beta later in July, followed by a wide release in the fall. Registered developers can install the current build by opening the Settings app and choosing the software update tab.
