MiniMax's desktop agent app is about to look quite different. Earlier today, the company's official agent account posted a six-second teaser on X with a three-word caption: "MiniMax Code, Reimagined."

The video itself is just the app's blob-shaped mascot cycling through finishes (glossy blue, purple fur, chrome, moss, halftone) above the new wordmark. The details came a minute later in a reply to the post, in three buckets.

First, the look. MiniMax says MiniMax Code gets "a refreshed brand identity and a redesigned interface," along with "subtle interaction refinements."

Second, the agent. M3.1-Flash-Preview, MiniMax's newest M-series text model, "makes its debut in MiniMax Code." The update also brings improvements to Computer Use, MiniApp, custom themes, the Git Graph panel and "real-time agent action tracking." No benchmarks came with it.

That "debut" framing is a little odd. MiniMax announced on 27 September that M3.1-Flash-Preview was already live in MiniMax Code, and the changelog lists it in version 3.0.74. So this looks more like a formal rollout than a first appearance.

Third, and most important if you pay for it: a new subscription called M Plan "will succeed Token Plan." MiniMax says pricing and text usage quotas stay the same, while "select tiers" will unlock the full model lineup, including its H3 video model. Token Plan's pricing page currently says H3 isn't covered. Token Plan will stop taking new purchases. Current subscribers with auto-renewal on keep their plan and can upgrade.

Here's the catch: none of this is live yet. A footnote says it all arrives with MiniMax Code v3.1.0. As of about 7:50 p.m. IST, the changelog still stops at v3.0.74 (28 September), and MiniMax hasn't given a release date.

A second reply lists the launch perks:

• Unlimited M3.1-Flash-Preview in MiniMax Code for all subscribers from 1 to 7 October (UTC+8). For India, that should start at 9:30 p.m. IST on 30 September.
• 50% off the first month for new subscribers and anyone upgrading to M Plan, from the M Plan launch through 14 October. Regular pricing applies from month two.
• Bonus credits for every Token Plan user when M Plan launches.

If you haven't tried it, MiniMax Code isn't only for coding. It's MiniMax's desktop agent app for macOS and Windows, with a Coding mode and a Work mode for research, documents and presentations. With your permission, it can work inside local project folders, run terminal commands, use a built-in browser and plugins, and hand tasks off to the cloud. There's also a mobile app for remote control, and a CLI.

According to the changelog, the app launched in January as the MiniMax Agent desktop app, was rebuilt in May and was renamed MiniMax Code on 29 May. MiniMax open-sourced the CLI under the MIT license on 18 September (GitHub). MiniMax's model docs describe M3.1-Flash-Preview as a multimodal coding model with a 1M-token context window and "tunable thinking depth." For now, it's only available through Token Plan and MiniMax Code.

MiniMax Code is one of several apps trying to be both coder and coworker, much like Microsoft's rebuilt Copilot. The new coat of paint is nice, but the plan switch is what matters. "Pricing unchanged" is reassuring, but we still don't know which tiers get H3, or how non-text usage will be counted. We'll update this when v3.1.0 ships.
