On Tuesday afternoon, we reported that OpenAI's $200 Pro plan would reopen with new usage math. At DevDay that night, OpenAI filled in the details and added a more expensive tier on top.

There are now three Pro plans, according to OpenAI's help center: Pro 100 at $100 a month, Pro 200 at $200 and the new Pro 500 at $500. OpenAI says Pro 500 has its highest usage allowance, 25 times Plus, and it's the only Pro plan with Ultrafast. At launch, you can only subscribe on the web.

Ultrafast is available today for GPT-6 Astra in Codex, ChatGPT Work, and the API, with GPT-6.1 Sol coming soon.

Ultrafast is a premium speed tier for GPT-6 Astra. OpenAI says it generates tokens up to 8x faster in Codex, about 300 tokens per second, and up to 6x faster in the API. In ChatGPT Work and Codex, it's limited to Pro 500 and Enterprise, and buying credits on Pro 100 or Pro 200 won't unlock it. It uses your included allowance first, then your credits.

Developers get it too, at a price. OpenAI's pricing page lists Astra Ultrafast at $60 per million input tokens and $300 per million output tokens, six times the standard $10 and $50. Default rate limits are low, and the docs say it supports only US data residency and global processing, not EU endpoints. OpenAI first previewed Ultrafast in August with GPT-5.6 Sol, and says a version for the new GPT-6.1 Sol is coming soon.

Now, Pro 200. It's open to new subscribers again at $200 a month. But the help center says new subscriptions that aren't eligible for grandfathering "include a lower usage allowance than previously offered with Pro 200 to reflect our increasingly efficient models."

If your Pro 200 subscription was active at the eligibility cutoff, or during the seven days before it, you keep your old allowance through 29 October 2026. After that, you move to the lower allowance at the same price. OpenAI says affected users will get an email.

How much lower? OpenAI's pages don't give a number. Tibo, who works on Codex and ChatGPT at OpenAI, posted on X a couple of hours before the keynote that the plans would scale as Plus 1x, Pro 100 5x and Pro 200 10x. Pro 200 used to get 20 times Plus. That matches his earlier "half the dollar in API spend" line. He added that existing subscribers keep the 20x multiplier "for a bit" and get "a lot of additional credits."

Press reports go further. The Next Web reports that, according to OpenAI, existing subscribers get a one-time grant of usage credits worth $2,500 that expires at the end of the year, and that GPT-6 Pro messages in chat drop from 200 to 100 a week. The Decoder reports the same GPT-6 Pro cut. We haven't seen either on an OpenAI page yet.

One promise did make it onto OpenAI's official account: "We are also committing to not reintroducing the 5hr limit so that you can fully use your weekly usage when you want."

OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar told CNBC that when the $200 tier launched, "people thought we'd lost our minds." Now it's the middle option. If you're already on Pro 200, you have until 29 October to decide whether the new allowance is enough, or whether speed is worth $500 a month.
