OpenAI may be preparing a wallet for ChatGPT. A "Wallet" option marked "Coming soon" has reportedly shown up in the ChatGPT app, based on screenshots shared on X. OpenAI hasn't announced anything, so treat this as an early sighting, not a launch.
The first screenshot came from AI commentator Kol Tregaskes, who posted it on Wednesday afternoon India time with a simple question: "There's a ChatGPT Wallet coming soon?" It shows a settings-style list with Wallet at the top, tagged "Coming soon," sitting above Passwords and Finances. Below that, a pop-up shows a wallet icon and the line "A little wallet. A world of possibilities. Your Wallet is on its way."

That's all it gives away. There's no price, feature list or date, and the post doesn't say which version of the app it came from.
On Thursday, leak tracker TestingCatalog picked up the post and offered a theory: "Wallet in ChatGPT will likely be meant to be used by Dots for agentic shopping." Dots are the always-on agents OpenAI launched at DevDay this week, which we covered at launch. OpenAI says they connect to more than 4,000 apps, so a built-in way to pay would be a logical next step. Still, that link is TestingCatalog's guess, not something OpenAI has said.
There's some earlier evidence pointing the same way. In August, RuntimeWire reported finding an unreleased "Introducing ChatGPT Wallet" screen in OpenAI's Windows desktop app, with secure card entry and text saying ChatGPT can use saved payment methods to carry out tasks. RuntimeWire said it couldn't determine a release date, and that OpenAI hadn't responded to its request for comment by the time it published.
TestingCatalog also flagged the timing. World App, from Tools for Humanity, which TestingCatalog notes was co-founded by Sam Altman, has been renamed World Money. Its App Store listing, shown in TestingCatalog's post, now reads "World Money — Digital Wallet," and the update notes say "World App is now World Money, with a new design and new features focused on finance."

World's official blog introduced World Money on September 17 as "a financial super app for humans" built around a self-custody wallet with stablecoin balances and payments, rolling out in more than 150 countries. World is also known for World ID, its "proof of human" check.
"Coincidental? 👀" TestingCatalog asked. It argued that steering both products in the same direction "would be a solid move" that could eventually give OpenAI "immediate access to its own payment infrastructure." To be clear, nothing public ties ChatGPT's Wallet to World Money right now. They're separate companies, and the overlap could simply be timing.
A new Wallet, marked as “Coming Soon” appeared inside ChatGPT app almost at the same time when Wold app is getting rebranded into World Money and becoming an actual wallet.

One more wrinkle: OpenAI already uses the word. Its help center has a page called "Using your ChatGPT wallet balance," covering a US dollar balance from gift cards and account credits that can go toward eligible ChatGPT purchases on the web. The new Wallet could be an upgraded version of that, a card-saving tool for agents, or something else entirely.
So here's where things stand. Confirmed: a Wallet entry marked "Coming soon" has appeared in ChatGPT for at least one user, and World App is now World Money. Agent shopping, a World tie-in and any launch date are all speculation for now. If OpenAI shares details, we'll update this story.
