Anthropic's next top Claude model is now in the hands of its partners. Lyra (@lyraxana), a leaker on X with a strong track record, says Claude Fable 5.5 has gone out to partner companies for testing, and a public launch could follow as soon as next week.

"Partners got access to the upcoming Claude Fable 5.5," Lyra wrote. "No info on any release date this time but I assume next week."

In a follow-up reply, Lyra said the release "could be Friday" but still leaned toward next week, pointing to how the last launch went: "Last time partners had to test Fable 5.1 checkpoints for more than 24h."

Partner access is usually one of the final steps before a big release. Companies that build on Claude get the model early so their products are ready on launch day. Fable 5.1 went live on the Claude API, Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud and Microsoft Foundry all at once, according to Anthropic's release notes.

The leak also fits what we spotted earlier this week, when Claude Fable 5.5 showed up in Microsoft's Foundry catalog ahead of any announcement.

Here's what makes the timing stand out. Fable is now the only part of Anthropic's 5.5 family that hasn't shipped. Opus 5.5 launched in late September, Sonnet 5.5 followed six days later, and Haiku 5.5 arrived earlier this month.

A launch next week would also be a clear speed-up for the Fable line. Fable 5 arrived in June and Fable 5.1 on September 1, about 12 weeks apart. Fable 5.5 next week would land roughly seven weeks after 5.1.

The new model has a high bar to clear, though. Anthropic says Opus 5.5 already "performs at the level of Claude Fable 5.1 on most work," and it costs $4 and $20 per million input and output tokens, against Fable 5.1's $10 and $50. To justify that premium, Fable 5.5 will need to pull clearly ahead, especially on long, hard agent tasks.

Anthropic hasn't confirmed Fable 5.5 or a launch date yet. Even Lyra isn't sure of the exact day, but partners testing the model suggests the wait won't be long.
