Cua has released the Cua Spaces SDK, a toolkit that lets developers give an AI agent its own computer to work on. The agent can be Claude Code, Codex or one you build yourself. The computer can be your own laptop, a spare Mac mini or a server you rent.

Cua announced the SDK in a thread on X. The company points to OpenAI's dots, which we covered at launch, and other lab bots that come with a computer of their own. Cua says none of them let you choose where that computer lives, and its SDK does.

Cua is a small San Francisco startup from Y Combinator's Spring 2025 batch. It started with free, open-source tools that let AI agents click, type and read the screen inside virtual machines. Its main GitHub project has more than 30,000 stars and uses the MIT license, so anyone can read and reuse the code.

The new SDK builds on Cua Spaces. A Space is a full desktop with its own screen and apps. Each bot gets one. Cua says a Space can run on your laptop, an office Mac, your own AWS, Google Cloud or Azure account, or a sandbox service like E2B, Daytona or Modal. You can watch the bot work and take over the mouse at any time.

Cua says starting a bot takes about ten lines of code. You start it, send it a task, check on it and close it. To move a job to another machine, you change one word in the code to that computer's name. Cua lists Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI, Goose, OpenCode and Hermes as agents that work with the same tools.

The pitch is control. With a lab's hosted bot, the lab picks the computer and holds your files. With Spaces, the computer stays yours. Cua's pricing page says the company does not rent computers, so you pay your own cloud bill on top of any Cua plan.

The free plan covers 2 live sessions and 20 remote hours a month. Pro costs $18 a month, or $15 a month billed yearly, and raises that to 5 sessions and 200 hours. Teams costs $30 per seat a month, or $25 billed yearly. Cua counts remote hours only when you reach a computer from somewhere else. Cua also says it never cuts you off for going over and shows an upgrade notice.

Some details are still thin. Cua has shared no speed or reliability numbers for bots built on the SDK. Windows support is a preview. Single sign-on and audit export are listed as coming later. We could not find outside coverage or independent tests of the SDK yet.

How to try it

Download the Cua Spaces app for Mac from cua.ai. Cua says you need no account to start. Follow the "Connect your agent" guide in Cua's docs to hook up Claude Code, Codex or another agent. Developers can fork Cua's sample bots app for Mac and iPhone on GitHub.

Start with a Space on your own machine and a dull task, like sorting files in one folder. Cua's Teleport feature can move a signed-in app, like your browser, into a Space. Keep your bank and email out of a Space until you trust the setup. An agent with a full desktop can do anything you can do on it, including mistakes.
